Fill Flash Brightens Your Photos Without Any Photo Editing

November 14, 2008

Many beginning and intermediate photographers have never heard of, let alone used Fill Flash. What is it? It’s using a flash when there is enough light that you don’t need to. If you’re thinking “Why would I do that?” many people wonder the same thing.

The reason is that even if there is enough light for, say, an outdoor photograph, your picture will “pop” more if using fill flash.

Here are two photographs, that demonstrate this point. One was taken with fill flash, and one without.

Everything else was identical… same pose, subjects, background, and composition. If you’re like most critics, you’ll probably agree that the one that used fill flash has more “pop” to it.

To get results like these, you will need a camera that allows for flash pictures to be taken when YOU WANT TO USE A FLASH; not just when the camera senses low light situations. And remember to keep the subjects within the range of your flash.
