Nikon revolutionized the SLR market when it introduced D40 in 2006 and the D40x in 2007. The digital SLR camera is compact and one can carry it to places easily. Nikon has slim down its body and has a slightly exaggerated grip handle. But it is indeed very comfortable and easy to hold. Nikon today introduced the new D40 digital SLR camera that’s designed to offer consumers the ability to get higher quality, impressive looking pictures with the press of a button.

ISO settings run from ISO 100 to ISO 1600, with an additional level called Hi 1, which is about equivalent to ISO 3200. For white balance, you can rely on auto, or chose Fluorescent, Direct Sunlight, Flash, Cloudy, and Shade presets, or use a white or gray card to manually set a white balance level.

Capture NX is designed to appeal to a broad range of consumers. Users with compact digital cameras such as Nikon’s COOLPIX series will enjoy the simplicity of using U Point technology to quickly enhance their JPEG pictures, eliminate any red-eye using the Automatic Red-Eye Correction tool and even resurrect underexposed images with the software’s D-Lighting feature.

Viewing excellence is taken further with an expansive 2.5-inch high-resolution LCD that provides an ultra-wide 170 degrees viewing angle from all directions. Photographers can customize and store up to nine customized options in the D3 and export up to 99 to a CF memory card, enabling photographers to share settings among multiple D3 cameras.

Autofocus can be continuous when the LCD is on or single autofocus is activated by a half press of the shutter release. Focusing can also be performed manually in which case the distance is indicated on both LCDs and can be visually confirmed on the color LCD with the peaking function. Auto focus gets me frustrated at times. It is also a bit heavy after a long day.

Canon is updating their line-up too fast, and this is bad for housing companies. Canon quality and reliability. Excellent value for money, particularly if you can still find a Rebel XT marked down to a close-out price, now that the XSi has come along to replace it. Canon lens 9475A002 can only be mounted on the Digital Rebel and EOS 20D with shorter back focus than ordinary EF lenses.
